A traditional English pub set in the Marlborough countryside

The Outside Chance was created in 2008 from the gambling winnings of Howard Spooner’s racehorse, Only Dreams, a 100-1 winner at Leicester. The OC is a traditional English pub in the picturesque village of Manton serving Wadworth fine ales and delicious classic food from top quality local produce.  It’s reputation as a racing brand attracts many of the local horse racing community and it was here where Sir AP McCoy OBE, the world’s greatest jump jockey and sporing legend, celebrated his remarkable achievement of riding 4,000 winners.

Open all day every day, everyone is made to feel welcome at the Outside Chance, be it the regulars, ladies who lunch, families and four-legged friends, or the impromptu visitor. We show all sports on request on our big flat-screen TV, including horseracing, rugby, boxing and football. We offer a fantastic Children’s menu and can provide high chairs. We also welcome well-behaved friendly family dogs.

The comfortable interior, with a splendid log fire at its centre, is characterised by fresh flowers, candlelight, background music and board games. There are plenty of outside tables, and you can choose to sit in the suntrap terrace with contemporary granite-topped tables or in the large garden with sturdy rustic tables and benches under ash trees. We have direct access to Manton Green playing fields with its children’s play area and to the River Kennet, where there are plenty of ducks to feed. There is also a large car park with wheelchair access straight to the pub door.  The Outside Chance is within walking distance of Marlborough, where the famous Marlborough College is at one end of what is reputedly the widest high-street in Europe. The town has an abundance of ladies fashion boutiques amongst a chic café culture atmosphere. The Outside Chance lies at the foot of the Marlborough Downs where the network of footpaths reach as far as Avebury and the Ridgeway.
